Proof Holdings vs Descope

Descope builds customer auth with a no-code, drag-and-drop flow editor — logins, sessions, and multi-tenant user management. Proof Holdings verifies control of an asset and returns a portable, signed proof token. Same passwordless moment; a different job around it.

Verdict

Descope owns the login journey; Proof owns the moment of proof. Teams add Proof for what no auth platform returns — a portable, offline-verifiable ES256 token of asset control — at €0.0079 a proof, with no directory to run.

One API · One key

One key does what a stack of vendors does

Every platform on this page wants to run your user directory. Proof is a single API you call from your own stack — the same reverse-OTP flow issues a signed, offline-verifiable ES256 token for each of these:

A login building block, not an auth platform

Descope is a customer-authentication platform whose signature feature is Descope Flows — a no-code, drag-and-drop editor for building and changing auth journeys without redeploying. It manages logins, sessions, multi-tenant organizations, SSO/SCIM, and fine-grained authorization (RBAC/ReBAC/ABAC).

Proof Holdings isn't in that business. A person proves control of a specific asset — phone, email, domain (wallet and social coming soon) — and you get a signed ES256 token. No flows to design, no user store, no sessions to run. You *can* use it as a passwordless, account-less login building block (Proof authenticates its own users this way) — it just isn't a full identity platform you configure.

Sessions vs portable proofs

Both are passwordless. The output is the difference. Descope issues a session in your app; Proof issues a proof token — a portable ES256 attestation that a named asset was verified at a point in time, verifiable offline by anyone with the public key.

That makes Proof useful precisely where an auth platform isn't: proving a business controls a domain during onboarding, getting a signed human approval from someone who will never have an account, or attaching a verifiable proof to a compliance record. Descope logs a user in; Proof produces evidence you can hand to a third party.

When to use Descope

  • You want to build and iterate on auth flows visually, with little or no code (Descope Flows)
  • You're a B2B SaaS needing multi-tenant orgs, SSO, and SCIM out of the box
  • You need fine-grained authorization — RBAC, ReBAC, or ABAC
  • You want a full managed user store and session management
  • You treat agentic / non-human identity as a first-class concern

When to use Proof Holdings

  • You need to verify control of an asset without running a login system
  • You need domain verification (DNS/HTTP/admin-email), which Descope doesn't offer
  • You want a portable, offline-verifiable proof token instead of an in-app session
  • You want human-in-the-loop approvals over Telegram/WhatsApp with signed tokens
  • You'd rather pay per verification than per monthly active user
  • You want SIM-swap-resistant phone verification via Reverse OTP
